Annotation

The article deals with the genesis and development of the “furusiyya” literary “genre” in the Medieval Muslim literature. The author analyses biography of its founder Ibn Akhi Hizam and re-introduces his his treatise, the “Kitāb al-furūsiyya wal-bayṭara”. The author deals with a contradictory history of the study of the Arabic text, the manuscripts, which contain it and the medieval and modern translations. He also offers corrections for some inaccuracies found with regard to the information about Ibn Akhi Hizam and his treatise, and stresses the academic importance of this hitherto underestimated text.
